Scrum Master

Due to the success of a number of strategic programs, we are seeking a Scrum Master. Your role will be to facilitate the most effective application of agile principles and practices to meet our customers’ emerging mission needs.

You will work with our team building and supporting software applications that provide crucial capability for our customer’s mission. You’ll act as a ‘servant leader’ to the team, helping them to work effectively together to deliver maximum value to our customers.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

  • Coordinating sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups
  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks
  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration
  • Work with the team to handle backlogs and new requests
  • Working with the Product Owner, to ensure there is a clear and managed roadmap
  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur
  • Help teams implement changes effectively
  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint
  • Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organisation.
  • Acts as a leader who coaches and supports Agile teams assigned to mainly Business as Usual (BAU) work and important function initiatives
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organisation and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organisation.
  • Monitor progress on day to day basis for all team activities and facilitate scrum ceremonies
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving.
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • BSc /BA in IT, Computer Science or relevant field.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Scrum expert and Advisor (first level scrum master certification)
  • Proven track record of leading change in an Agile environment and building traction and buy-in of new approaches
  • Proven track record of working with teams and stakeholders to drive out performance improvement across the organisation
  • Experience in playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Experience of various well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: approaches to Burndown charts, various Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.).

Desirable

  • Second level Scrum Master certification (CSP, PSM II)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Previous experience as a team lead

  • From time to time travel abroad may be required, therefore a passport and independent nature is essential
  • A self-starter with a keen eye for detail, the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload under pressure
  • Clean Driving license
